Biography
Nasrah Nefer is a German-Egyptian visual artist, author, curator, and founder/director of LUMEN ART Gallery whose work has developed at the intersection of art, consciousness, spirituality, cultural history, and human experience.
Her artistic path is marked by an interdisciplinary biography. She studied art in Italy with Francesco Santini in Sardinia and continued her artistic education in Germany. At the University of Cologne, she pursued studies in Egyptology, Archaeology, and Islamic Studies, fields that deepened her engagement with symbolism, cultural memory, ancient concepts of existence, and the ways in which human beings have attempted to understand the visible and invisible world.
Another formative element of her artistic development is movement. Nefer completed nine years of dance education and has more than twenty years of stage experience. The body therefore appears in her artistic thinking not merely as a physical form but as a carrier of memory, emotion, energy, vulnerability, and transformation.
Her visual work moves between figuration and abstraction and often enters metaphysical and psychedelic territories. Rather than reproducing external reality, Nefer is interested in what exists beneath or beyond its immediately visible surface. Consciousness, inner landscapes, identity, transformation, memory, spiritual experience, and the relationship between the individual and a larger cosmos form recurring aspects of her work.
Her compositions frequently operate as psychological or metaphysical spaces. Color, structure, symbolic forms, and altered perspectives become means of approaching experiences that resist direct verbal expression. This exploration is particularly evident in bodies of work such as THE UNARTICULATED, in which the unspoken and difficult-to-define dimensions of inner experience become the actual subject of the image.
Nefer has developed an extensive international exhibition history, with 24 solo exhibitions and approximately 40 group exhibitions. Her work has been presented in Türkiye, Italy, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Dubai, and other international contexts. She participated in the Bodrum Art Fair in 2024 and the Izmir Art Fair in 2025. Her artistic career has also been recognized through several international distinctions, including the Leonardo da Vinci Award, the International Caravaggio Award, the Paris Art Prize 2022, and an international art award in Dubai in 2024.
Beyond her own studio practice, Nefer is deeply involved in international cultural exchange. As founder and director of LUMEN ART Gallery, she develops exhibitions, competitions, publications, artist presentations, interviews, and international collaborations designed to connect artists across geographical and cultural boundaries.
Writing constitutes another important part of her creative practice. Her autobiographical novel “Ruhun Ayrıksı Tangosu” was published in Turkish in 2022, reflecting the same interest in identity, memory, inner transformation, and human existence that characterizes her visual work.
Across painting, literature, curatorial practice, and international cultural projects, Nasrah Nefer’s work is connected by a central concern: the attempt to give form to what cannot easily be articulated—to make inner realities visible and to create spaces in which the psychological, spiritual, physical, and metaphysical dimensions of human existence can encounter one another.
