Every evening, she picked up her saxophone and paused before playing. In that silence, she could hear people most clearly: those who never had the chance to say goodbye, those who could not speak of whom they missed, and those who held back their tears to appear strong. Then a single note would rise. No one knew for whom it was played, yet everyone who heard it found something of themselves in the song. In the painting, she stands on the edge of that first note. Perhaps that is why, when we look at her, we hear something within ourselves before the music even begins.
