MOODY - Anika Uluc

MOODY - is a contemporary wall sculpture that explores the dynamic, asymmetric, and multi-layered nature of human psychology through a cubist lens. The overlapping of genuine leather pieces in distinct colors and textures—cut with sharp, geometric lines—symbolizes the intricate layers of our moods and the sharp transitions within our inner worlds. The focal point of the single eye establishes a silent yet profound confrontation with the viewer. This abstract portrait embodies the ever-shifting internal climate of human emotions and the masks we wear, using the organic form of the material.

My recent work moves between sculptural wall pieces, lighting, functional and wearable objects. Leather remains an important material, often combined with felt, wool, textiles, paper clay, copper, brass and other found or upcycled elements. I am interested in what happens when materials with visible histories are given a new context rather than being made perfectly uniform. Scratches, ageing, rough edges and patina are not problems to conceal; they are part of the character of the work. The forms are often intuitive and tactile. I tend to follow the material, its curves, resistance and imperfections, rather than beginning from a fixed idea of what an object should be.
