Voice Blinders explores the need to develop an inner mechanism of protection against the continuous flow of external voices that shape our emotions, self-perception, and decisions.
Inspired by the concept of horse blinders, the work reimagines emotional boundaries as an internal organ that filters the voices surrounding us. Green represents reassurance and security, while black embodies negativity and discouragement. Rendered as harsh, repetitive marker strokes, these external forces travel like continuous frequency waves toward the heart.
At the center lies a translucent, womb-like protective structure: a space of emotional containment and self-preservation. Small yellow dots scattered within it act as imagined antibodies, detecting and capturing harmful messages that manage to penetrate the barrier.
Through marker drawing, the work visualizes an invisible psychological process as a bodily structure. It suggests that emotional protection is not simply about shutting out the outside world, but about cultivating an inner capacity to recognize, filter, and respond to what enters us.
Voice Blinders imagines emotional boundaries not as something we are born with, but as an inner organ we must learn to develop.
